Late autumn, heavy rain. MARTIN BARTON (20s) runs out of the gate, umbrella in his hands. His coat is soaked, his hair drips. Martin dashes to a bus station nearby.
EXT. BUS STATION - SAME
As bus departs, leaving Martin alone at the empty station.
MARTIN
God damn bus drivers.
He turns around to see DIANA (early 20s) strolling down the flooded street. She is clad in a white summer dress, it's soaked and sticks to her body. Her face is turned up, she smiles and catches raindrops with her parted lips.
Martin is mesmerized. He drops his umbrella, stumbles and follows Diana.
MARTIN
Stop, wait a minute!
Diana walks away, heedless. Martin pursues.
MARTIN
My name is Martin, Martin Barton from the Life Science. I've never seen you here before. You live at the dorms?
No response. The girl dances down the street, he trails behind.
MARTIN
You are cold, take my umbrella. Take my coat!
He notices that his umbrella is missing, looks dully at his empty hand for a moment, then starts fidgeting with his coat buttons. The girl pirouettes in the middle of a dirty puddle.
MARTIN
What in the world are you? What's your name?
Diana faces him.
DIANA
Diana.
MARTIN
Diana and?
DIANA
Just Diana. I'm a Rain Goddess.
Martin smiles dazedly.
MARTIN
Whatever you say.
(beat)
Look, I was going to have a cup of coffee at the "Three whistles".
Wonna go with me? Cup of coffee?
Diana smiles.
INT. CAF? "THREE WHISTLES"- LATER
Little coffee house, round tables, soft music.
WAITERESS at the bar wipes glasses, yawning. Sometimes she casts a dirty look at Martin and Diana, who sit at the table in the corner.
Diana sips her coffee. Her hair and dress are still soaked and drip. Martin talks animatedly
MARTIN
... and you struggle through your thesis, one more publication, and then one more, and this position of senior scientist waiting for you, and then-oops-you are thirty five, you are
getting bald, your boring wife wants this trip to Majorca and keeps droning about a new house.
MARTIN
But then I saw you, Diana. And I thought I still have a chance...It will never be the same.
Diana smiles at him, sips her coffee.
INT. BEDROOM - LATER
Diana sits on the bed. Martin lies on his back, smiling. She bends over him to give him a kiss. Her long dump hair falls on his face.
MARTIN
Diana...
DIANA
Shush...
Kisses him again.
DIANA
I am a Rain Goddess, Martin.
MARTIN'S POV: Of Diana's locks, turning into a wall of heavy rain.
Martin chokes as flood washes over him. He fights for a breath of air, but his face smears and washes away.
DIANA (V.O.)
I am a Rain Goddess, Martin.
INT. BEDROOM - LATER
Behind the window heavy rain splashes on the empty streets. Dim figure of dancing Diana disappears in the darkness.
