News from the Krasnoyarsk Krai of Russia has been added to the flow of news from the western border.
In both cases, trying to clarify the meaning of the name, I used the Explanatory Dictionary by Vladimir Dal.
At first I was interested in Znamenka.
"Znamenka" sounded in the news from the western border, and from the Krasnoyarsk Krai (Siberia).
It is impossible to unequivocally decipher "Znamenka".
In this word, both operational [actional] (put a sign), and managerial (issued a pass, "znamenovali"), and military (banner, standard-bearer), and religious, and other meanings can be 'encrypted'.
I personally like the "military" version. This is the settlement where the banner (and the standard bearer) was located. (Or where the standard-bearer lived).
To "Saltovo", to "Voevodyno" ("military" names) we add "Znamenka".
As for the name "Suvodye".
Regarding this name is much easier. It is present in the Dictionary by Vladimir Dal as a separate term. This word is 'deciphered' through a long synonymous series. The most expressive seemed to me 'abyss', 'whirlpool', 'wrap'... 'Vortex' is also not bad, but it sounds less expressive.
Is it possible to compare rivers in Eastern Europe and in Siberia (in the Krasnoyarsk Krai)?
I do not presume to speak out a thoughts on this topic.
However, I suppose that on some rivers, for example, on the Dnieper, there could be places that could be called the word "suvodye". Therefore, corresponding geographical names are possible.
Although I did not find either Znamenka or Suvodye on the map, I have no doubts about the existence of such settlements.
